The series AWAKE can be seen as visions rooted in personal childhood dreams and fantasies. Sensing time and space, the series is inspired by scientific dreams, discoveries and mysteries, both from our present and past. The series brings inspiration from a child’s exploration of the world; seeing , sensing and discovering it for the first time, with a mix of both amusement, excitement, fear and wonder. It is a series of shattered gazes to spaces beyond the horizon that puts man and the relation to the landscape in focus, and thematizes the duality and tension between nature and culture. — Øystein Sture Aspelund
